Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats launched their bid to unseat the Conservatives today in June's County Council elections - by going online.

The party's Six to Fix campaign went live today on social media sites Facebook and Youtube, as well as on the party's County and Borough-wide websites.

Liberal Democrat Opposition Leader Brian Hoare welcomed the move, saying:

"Councillors must do more to get people involved in local politics.

"By going online - using our own sites and others - we hope to bring more people into the debate and show them that we have the team in place to stop the rot in County Hall."

Commenting on the party's Six to Fix election campaign, Cllr. Hoare said:

"The County Council spends over £1 billion of our money every year - Northamptonshire's hard-working families expect results.

"After four years of Tory failure, it's time for change. School standards are slipping, our roads are a mess and our Council Tax is on the up.

"Our Six to Fix manifesto sets out our priorities - and how we would pay for them - clearly and comprehensively.

"We worked hard on the document to make sure we got it right and show people what they could expect from a Liberal Democrat County Council.

"Our top priority will be to fix the finances in County Hall and put an end to the Conservatives' continued cuts.

"Outside the council, Liberal Democrats will tackle failing schools, invest more in our roads and pavements, and introduce a Community Payback scheme to force offenders face up to their crimes.

"We will be encouraging voters over the coming weeks to get online and involved.

"Where Labour can't and the Tories won't - Liberal Democrats will take the tough choices to really invest in our schools and roads, while taking an axe to waste and excess in County Hall."
