Residents Clean up in Teesdale7.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 8th Apr 2008
Local residents living in Teesdale (Southfields) and the immediate area were out in force on Saturday to clean up the stream that flows through the area. The clean up event had been organised by local Thorplands Lib Dem Councillor Dennis Meredith and was supported by other Lib Dem Councillors including Parliamentary candidate Andrew Simpson. "The whole area looks much better" said Cllr Meredith. "We have had support from the whole community in clearing out the stream which had been neglected for many years. It could be such a good spot for people to enjoy but had become a rubbish dump". Northampton Borough Council supported the event and the local Neighbourhood Warden was on hand to help take the rubbish away. The Council provided rubbish bags, gloves and litter pickers for people to use. Enough rubbish was collected to fill up the whole of the Council's pick up truck. Andrew Simpson, Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate for Northampton North, who along with other Councillors helped out, said "This has been a great event that brings people together to look after their patch. We need to do more across the town to encourage people to join with the Council in keeping an area cleaned up and maintained".
