Cllr. John Yates, Liberal Democrat Spokesman for Education and Youth Services and a School Governor at Kingsthorpe Community College has condemned members of the Governing Body for voting against a request from parents and pupils for lockers within the school.

Councillor John Yates says: "There was £20,000 set aside in the "new build" money for the school to include lockers where pupils can leave their personal belongings. The money was allocated in the PFI New Build Programme, and other new schools such as the new secondary school at Duston have them. It is disgraceful that pupils have to drag their belongings around with them from classroom to classroom for their different lessons, or risk losing personal possessions if left in the cloakrooms."

The school governors voted to transfer the cost of providing lockers to the curriculum budget instead.
