Cllr Portia Wilson "It has been a really rewarding morning the whole area looks much better."

Liberal Democrat Councillors and local residents spent Saturday morning clearing out rubbish in the wooded copse behind the Veterinary Practice along side Coppice Drive in Parklands. Over 20 sacks were filled with rubbish as well as old tyres and garden equipment being cleared out of the wooded area.

Cllr Portia Wilson who helped organise the event said "It has been a really rewarding morning, the whole area looks much better. It is such a shame that people cannot take their rubbish home or use a litter bin. Now the area is clearer I hope the Council can ensure it stays that way."

The Community Clean Up was organised by Parklands ward Liberal; Democrat Borough Councillors Malcolm Mildren and Portia Wilson. The Borough Council provides gloves, sacks and rubbish pickers and organises a collection of the rubbish after the event. If you are interested in organising a clear up in your area let us know.

Cllr Andrew Simpson, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North constituency, who also took part in the clean up said. "We really need to educate people more into the effects of dropping litter and rubbish - the vast majority of rubbish we have picked up are tins cans and plastic bottles - both of which can be re-cycled. If we want to save the planet we have to start here by taking care of where we live".
