"Closure of Learning Disability Day Care Centres is wrong"9.18.00am GMT Thu 20th Dec 2007 Much valued services to people with Learning Disabilities are to be lost in the latest Tory County Council budget cuts. Day Centre Services that are a lifeline for users and their carers are to be cut by £1.65 million over the next three years.
Liberal Democrat Cllr. David Garlick said: "This is another blow to vulnerable people and their carers. It seems that the Conservative County Council does not care." "Carers give unstintingly a large slice of their own lives for 40, 50 or even 60 years to look after members of their family, but they only able to do this because of the respite that day care provides. " These proposals are contained within the budget proposals approved by the Conservative County Council for consultation. Day services provide an excellent service in terms of training in essential life skills, social skills, preparation for a move into the world of work and, not least of all, providing regular respite care.
