Northampton's new Faiths Champion10.12.00am GMT Thu 20th Dec 2007
Liberal Democrat Councillor Scott Collins (Eastfield) has been appointed as Northampton's first Faiths Champion. The role has been introduced by Northampton Borough Council to help develop the relationship with faith groups across the town and ensure their contribution in the community is recognised and valued. At this time of year with recent Diwali and Eid events and Christmas only days away, many people will be particularly aware of events that bring not only families but communities together. The new role recognises the multicultural nature of Northampton and the importance of interfaith work in enriching community life and community cohesion. Northampton Borough Councillor Brendan Glynane, Liberal Democrat cabinet member for community engagement said: "I am pleased to announce Cllr Scott Collins as the first Faiths Champion. I hope that in this role he will be able to help promote dialogue between the Council and the faiths across the town. Good work is already happening in Northampton with various faith groups and this role should help that work continue and develop further. It will also help promote understanding both within the council and Northampton as a whole."
