Cllr Brendan Glynane, Cabinet member for Community Engagement & Safety says the Lib Dems have restored Christmas in Northampton

Liberal Democrat controlled Northampton Borough Council has reversed Tory plans to axe the town centre Christmas lights this year.

At a cabinet meeting on Monday night, the Liberal Democrat administration allocated £30,000 to reverse the previous decision by the Tories to cut the entire budget of £80,000 for the Christmas lights.

Cllr Tony Woods, Leader of Northampton Borough Council, said:

"We are pleased that we have been able to restore some budget cuts caused by the Tories financial incompetence. We hope, and are seeking contributions from town centre businesses to keep the lights on in our town centre."

Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Brendan Glynane added:

"This decision means we will now have a town centre Christmas parade, Christmas trees and Christmas lights, all of which the outgoing Tory administration planned to axe."
