Neighbourhood Wardens clean up!12.04.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 2nd Jul 2007
Local Liberal Democrat Councillors Jean Hawkins and Scott Collins where delighted when children from Eastfield Primary School decided to show just how much they love their community and their park by teaming up with six of Northampton Borough Council's Neighbourhood Wardens to take part in a school litter pick. A group of twenty seven kids aged 7-8 years old separated into nine litter picking teams accompanied by the Neighbourhood Wardens, their head teacher and other members of staff to carry out the community clear up. Equipped with mini high visibility vests, gloves, litter pickers and refuse sacks the enthusiastic bunch ignored the bad weather to pick up litter along the streets before heading into Eastfield Park. Neighbourhood Wardens Neil Wooding and Alan Howick assisted on the clean up and provided all the litter picking equipment. The council also provided a refuse truck to dispose of the waste once it had been collected. Liberal Democrat Borough Councillor Trini Crake, cabinet member for environment said: "The Neighbourhood Wardens do a great deal of work to help keep the local community clean and free from litter. They work closely with schools, resident associations and community groups to organise and support clean ups and litter picks in their areas. Schools are always particularly keen to get involved because it's a fun way for children to learn how important it is that they take care of the town they live in."
