Lib Dems welcome the proposed new Far Cotton Library12.02.00am GMT Wed 1st Nov 2006
Brendan Glynane, (Liberal Democrat Councillor for Far Cotton and Delapre) has welcomed the news that Northamptonshire County Council will be working with Northampton Borough Council to provide a new library to replace the present Far Cotton Library. The new library will form part of a new community centre located on the recreation ground. It is planned that the new library will open in March 2007. Cllr. Glynane says: "I am delighted that a new library is being included in the new community centre - and I look forward to it providing a modern "state of the art" service for local residents. The new library and community centre should become the hub and the meeting place of the local community." "Whilst the present library has provided a very good service for many years for the residents of Far Cotton and Delapre, it has passed its "sell by date" and is not suitable for use by people with disabilities and it does not conform with the 'disability discrimination act' and does not meet the demands of a modern library service. I am sure that its regular users will welcome its replacement." The new Community Centre is a joint scheme between Northampton Borough Council, Northamptonshire County Council, Health Service and Community Groups. It is being jointly funded by NBC, NCC, and an East Midlands Development Association grant. It is currently in the construction stage and should be completed at the end of January. Cllr. Glynane has been instrumental in campaigning for the library to be included within the new community centre and has been involved in the various consultations.
