Liberal Democrats in Northampton have rejected the Conservative County Council's suggestions for a Unitary Northamptonshire Council

"There is no sense of natural community right across the whole of Northants" said Northampton Borough Lib Dem Leader Cllr. Tony Woods. "There is a natural and growing community of Northampton. Its people deserve to control their own affairs and have their own Council"

"We would prefer to see a brand new Northampton Council replacing both the present Northampton Borough Council and the Northamptonshire County Council" said Lib Dem County colleague, Cllr. Richard Church. "This would deliver all the services that the present Borough and County provide, plus the operations of the West Northants Development Corporation. This would cater for an expanding Northampton."
