Lib Dems urge action on housing

Cllr Sally Beardsworth wants to see more affordable housing for Northampton

Liberal Democrat Shadow Housing Spokesperson Councillor Sally Beardsworth has responded to today's Government's figures showing house price increases of 1.6% in August saying:

"This underlines the urgent need to tackle the crisis of housing affordability. It's more difficult to buy a house now than at any time since World War Two.

"Just as house prices have increased so have interest rates. More and more people are having to stretch themselves to the limit to get a foot on or move up the property ladder.

"It is no surprise that council house waiting lists are rocketing all over the country. We need a sustainable housing market that provides social housing and homes to rent and buy.

"It's time the Government got a housing policy that worked."
