Liberal Democrat Councillors, at both County and Borough level, joined with members of the public to pay their respects to Northampton's Liberal M.P, Charles Bradlaugh on Sunday 24th September. Bradlaugh (1833-1891) was one of the most famous and out-spoken political figures of the 19th century. This event, which is now in its 4th year, was formed by the Charles Bradlaugh Society, to remind the people of Bradlaugh's role and importance, within the political history of Northampton.

Cllr Richard Church, Lib Dem Leader on the County Council said "It was good to see such an event supported by my fellow Lib Dems. Bradlaugh is rightly remembered as an M.P, who spoke up for the people of Northampton. Bradlaugh supported many causes which are of course still very much on the agenda of the modern Liberal Democrats, such as freedom of speech, and equality for woman. In a world where many Members of Parliament, too often, look to their own careers, Bradlaugh certainly had courage in speaking his mind, something I greatly respect and support".

The remembrance was closed with a short speech by local Lib Dem member Garry Marlowe, who spoke on Bradlaugh's achievements.
