Local support for Ming12.07.55pm GMT Fri 3rd Mar 2006
Local Liberal Democrats have been quick to declare their support for Sir Menzies Campbell, the new leader of the Liberal Democrats. Local Party Chair, John Ralings said "Ming is hugely experienced and will be a very safe pair of hands to take the party forward" Richard Church, Leader of the Lib Dems on the County Council said "Ming's record on the Iraq War has been fantastic. Time and again he had the government on the run. His forensic destruction of the government's case for the war and his persistent questioning of their evidence -- such as the dodgy dossier -- demonstrates that he is an exceptional parliamentarian and a statesman. He is the best possible leader for our party." Leader of the Lib Dems on Northampton Borough Council, Tony Woods, added "Without a leader we won the Dunfermline by-election by a landslide and, locally, took Labour's safest seat in Spencer. Now we have a leader -- and someone with the strength of character and of will to modernise the party where it needs it and to speak up for the Liberal Democrat principles of freedom and fairness -- we can advance even further. Ming is the right man to challenge this authoritarian government that is eroding our basic civil liberties and increasing the gap between rich and poor in our society."
