Lib Dems call in of Sixfields decision is vindicated by Councillors

9.00.00am GMT Thu 12th Jan 2006

Following the investigation of the Call In of the Cabinet's Sixfields decision of 5 December by the Scrutiny Committee last night Tony Woods, one of the Call In authors said "Having investigated the original Cabinet decision and hearing a considerable amount of evidence the committee unanimously concluded that the process being followed by Cabinet put the Council at significant risk. The investigation was cross party, detailed and forensic. I am pleased the Scrutiny process conducted by Councillors from all three political parties has been effective and will help the Cabinet to review their decision to achieve the best result for the town in the light of the evidence presented last night."

Andrew Simpson, a member of the Scrutiny Committee said "The investigation revealed real problems with the original decision. The important thing now is for the Council to move forward quickly to find a solution that works for the town and which enables the Cobblers to grow."
