A year of achievement- A Promise of More
New!
Mon 12th May 2008
A year since the Liberal Democrats took control of Northampton has been described as a year of solid achievement by Leader Cllr. Tony Woods "We inherited from the Tories a council in a mess" said Tony Woods. "A year ago Government inspectors had rated the council as one of the worst in the country, with weak political leadership, finances in a mess and failure to deliver services people have a right to expect. We said that turning the council round would take time and some difficult decisions. So it has been, but real improvements in the council's services to the public have been achieved."

"Liberalism in Britain has lost a great champion, the Liberal Democrats, a great advocate and our public life, a great servant. "
Lord Paddy Ashdown
In memory of Lord Richard Holme, who died on 5 May
"If the Tories want to claim that they are going to cut corporation tax, they have to come clean about how they are going to pay for it. Cutting the main rate of corporation tax to 25% will cost more than £5bn a year. If David Cameron is to have a hope of sounding credible he must state clearly where the money will come from. Otherwise this will be seen as yet another unfunded tax cut. "
